Building Bridges Across Continents TCI Sanmar Chemicals – Sae – Egypt
July 23, 2015TCI Sanmar Chemicals S.A.E. is one of the key constituent companies
of The Sanmar Group. The group acquired Trust Chemical Industries LLC in
Port Said, Egypt, in March 2007 and rechristened it. TCI Sanmar
manufactures caustic soda based on membrane technology with a capacity
of 200,000 tonnes per annum (tpa).
The company has completed the first phase of expansion involving
expansion of Caustic Soda capacity to 275,000 tpa, setting up a new
Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) plant with a capacity of 150,000 tpa and a
Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) plant with a capacity of 200,000 tpa. The PVC
production is expected to be commissioned in November 2011 using
imported Ethylene Di Chloride (EDC) as a feedstock.
The second phase of expansion involving setting up of a 185,000 tpa
Ethylene manufacturing plant with imported Ethanol as raw material and
expansion of PVC capacity by another 200,000 tpa, is going to be taken
up for implementation shortly.
Phase 1 expansion involving an investment of USD 900 million has been
funded by equity from Sanmar including cash from operations of around
USD 300 million and the balance has been funded by loans from ten Indian
banks.
Phase 2 expansion involving an investment of USD 300 million to be
completed over the next two years will result in a total PVC capacity of
400,000 tpa with renewable raw material source (Bio-Ethanol). This
facility will be the largest integrated facility in the region.
School at Port Said
A cooperation protocol for establishing a school for basic education
(primary and preparatory) has been entered between the company and the
Port Said Governorate on 4 May 2011, as per which TCI Sanmar will fund
the school building construction up to 5 million LE upon area 50,000m2
with a capacity of thirty classrooms, a library, playground and
facilities for entertainment activities.
Visit of Indian Ambassador
Mr. R Swaminathan, Ambassador of India to Egypt, visited the plant
facilities. TCI Sanmar has set up a unique Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)
facility at Port Said which will ensure that not a drop of effluent is
discharged anywhere outside the factory. All the liquid effluent will be
fully treated, recycled and reused. This is first of its kind in Egypt
